Philips 42PFL9803H 42″ LCD
Philips 42PFL9803
The release of the 42PFL9803 from Philips sees the introduction of ground breaking technology in the form of LED backlighting. Winner of the EISA ‘European LCD-TV 2008-2009′ award, the 42″ set delivers high contrast black levels. This latest LED backlighting technology incorporated in the 9800 series means these new LCD TVs are arguably a match for the best plasma TV sets.
Black levels and motion blur has always been a challenge to overcome with current LCD technology. Thanks to the revolutionary LED backlight and the unique LED local dimming backlight technology, LED LUX washed out blacks are no longer a problem.
The LED Lux panels use a rear mounted grid of over 1000 white LEDs that are operated selectively. They generate brilliant light in bright areas and are dimmed to lower levels in dark scenes. The result is intense colour, very high contrast and natural rich tones.
42PFL9803H Connectivity
The 42PFL9803H boasts four HDMI with EasyLink for full HD connection and features an Ethernet port for hooking up to all your networked content. Other key features include Ambilight Spectra 2 technology, Perfect Pixel HD Engine, 100Hz Clear LCD with a 2ms response time and a contrast ratio of 2,000,000:1.
Philips high end TVs use latest picture enhancing technology like the Perfect Pixel HD Engine. This powerful video processing system boosts sharpness clarity and contrast and delivers a smooth natural motion whatever you are watching. Video noise is also suppressed in all content sources from multimedia to standard TV resulting in razor sharp images.
Ambilight Spectra 2 technology emits a glow from the back of the screen onto surrounding wall to compliment the colour content shown on the screen. It automatically adjusts according to how bright the images are; this is both pleasing on the eye as well as relaxing for long term viewing.
Another key feature especially important when it comes to fast moving scenes is Perfect Natural Motion. This is in charge of correcting any judder in broadcast and pre-recorded material including 1080p movies and 24p True cinema on Blu-ray and DVD. Motion performance is smooth and sharp no matter how fast things are moving.
On board are all the essential sockets you need enabling you to access a variety of picture, audio and video files from a connected PC. There are 4 x HDMIs, USB input and a DLNA-certified ethernet port.
Three of the HDMI sockets are located at the back and 1 to the side so there are plenty to go around for connecting devices such as an HD set-top box, Blu-ray player and games console or camcorder. The inclusion of Philips’ Easylink makes operating any connected devices and TV functionalities much simpler from one remote control.
Philips’ debut of this 42 inch LED TV has caused quite a stir in the LED market. It has earned a “What Plasma & LCD TV Editor’s Choice and awarded 4 Stars in their Special LED TV report.

The Philips Corporation

Following the commercialization of light bulbs the company seized the opportunity to supply the growing demand and by the turn of the century began making carbon-filament lamps and other electro technical equipment.
Over the years, the list of inventions grew along with further development in lighting leading to Philips becoming firmly established as the largest producer in Europe. The company soon expanded and in 1925 became involved in the first experiments in television.
Philips was one of the few companies that successfully made the transition from the electrical age of the 19th century into the electronic age of the next century and beyond.
Today this market driven company has evolved to become a recognisable household brand and their products include consumer electronics, domestic appliances, lighting and medical systems.
Many breakthroughs have continued to enrich people’s everyday lives and in September 2004, Philips launched its new slogan “sense and simplicity”. Their brand promise of providing easy to use advanced products; designed with simplicity in mind rather than complexity.
